The ongoing coronavirus pandemic is the reason we decided to cancel the 2020 player development camp. The primary concern is the safety of our players, officials, coaches, volunteers, and families involved with the player development process. The restrictions put in place nationally and locally because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic affected most affiliates and districts from holding tryouts for camps. By canceling affiliate and district camps, we have reduced the risk to thousands of players that would go through the tryout process. This would include families making travel arrangements (flights, hotel reservations, etc.) for events that had the potential to be canceled. The majority of these events are organized by USA hockey volunteers and there are difficulties in rescheduling the events given the uncertainty of the situation (i.e. ice time, hotel, registration, refunds, evaluators, staff, overhead, etc.). To do all of this when the National Camps may still be canceled added unnecessary risk for all parties involved.
More information is forthcoming regarding refunds for those players registered for New England Select Weekend
